Karen Tilley, a Brighton-born visual and multidisciplinary artist, draws deeply from her lived experiences as a working-class woman with dyslexia. Her art explores themes of representation, social roles, and family dynamics, delving into the weight of inherited expectations and burdens placed on women. Through her work, Karen highlights how we cultivate strength and voice to uplift one another. Recently, she has incorporated performance and poetry, infusing her narratives with humour and nostalgia, enriching the emotional depth of her storytelling.

Karen brings her narrative to life through a diverse array of mediums, including moving image, photography, experimental sound, everyday objects and traditional art forms such as embroidery, printing and oil painting. This eclectic blend allows her to craft a rich, immersive experience that enhances the themes she explores.
